In a off season twist, after placing the franchise tag on Matt Cassel, the New England Patriots have traded their backup quarterback and LB Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Cheifs for a second round pick.  When the Pats franchise taged Cassel it meant they were on the line to pay him $14.5 million to be a backup.  This trade clears up that cap space, and proves that the Tom Brady rumors about him facing setbacks in his rehab must be untrue.

Wow Cassel and Vrabel for a second round pick??  This trade is all about dumping salary.  Even the Pats must be affected by the economy!

I skipped my annual NBA All-Star Weekend column because I was frantically trying to finish my book. At least that’s how I rationalized it. I need to finish this book. I have a deadline. A man from President Obama’s hometown of Chicago has been arrested for allegedly sending Obama and his staff envelopes containing HIV-infected blood, in the hopes of killing or harming them.

It’s only the second time ever that HIV-infected blood has been sent with malicious intent through the U.S. mail system, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said.

In the weeks leading up to Obama’s inauguration, Saad Hussein, an Ethiopian refugee in his late 20’s, sent an envelope addressed to “Barack Obama” to offices of the Illinois government in Springfield, Ill., according to court documents. The envelope contained a series of unusual items, including a letter with reddish stains and an admission ticket for Obama’s election-night celebration in Chicago’s Grant Park. Court documents said Hussein, who takes drugs to treat a mental illness, later told FBI agents he is “very sick with HIV” and cut his fingers with a razor so he could bleed on the letter.

The Washington Redskins acted quickly during the first day of free agency by reaching a seven- year $100 million deal with former Titan Albert Hanyesworth. The deal can fetch up to $115 million including incentives and $ 41 million in guarantees. At least six teams in the first hour of free-agency contacted  Haynesworth’s agent Chad Speck and offered at least $30 million in guaranteed money but it came down to two teams, the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Washington Redskins, with the Redskins prevailing. Haynesworth led the Titans with  8½ sacks last season. He also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, 7  tackles for a loss and forced a team-high 4 fumbles. This deal makes Haynesworth the highest paid defensive lineman in NFL history .

We can’t even remember what made Jennifer Love Hewitt famous. Was it a fluke of the 90s? We seem to have some vague memory of her being hot or something.

The Portland Trailblazers 7ft center Greg Oden, was the #1 pick in the 2007/2008 NBA draft. He was picked ahead of Oklahoma City Thunder Swing man and NCAA player of the year Kevin Durant.  While Durant went on to win rookie of the year last year, Oden missed the entire season because of a knee injury, thus making this year Oden’s rookie season. Durant is setting the league ablaze (lol) (how was he not an all star??) averaging  26.3 points a game to go along with 6.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Oden meanwhile has missed time with injuries and has struggled to average 9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks a game. There is a chance he will not place in the top 5 in rookie of the year voting. The Mayor of Los Alamitos California, Dean Grose sent out a racist email to local business people, Keyanus Price, who happens to be Afro-American didn’t find it to amusing. “I was horrified when I read that e-mail,” Price said. “What I’m concerned about is how can this person send an e-mail out like this and think it is OK?” Being a public official, Price said, made the matter worse. “He’s putting the city into a bad place, and he is a liability,” Price wrote in an e-mail.
