A report in the New York Daily News alleged that in a new book on Alex Rodriguez to be published this Monday by Harper Collins, the star tipped pitches when he was with the Texas Rangers, essentially signaling to friendly opponents what pitch was coming. SI senior writer Selena Roberts, who along with David Epstein broke the story in February about A-Rod’s use of performance enhancing drugs, wrote the book and talked to SI.com about the allegations.

Hugh Jackman knows the best way to a fan’s heart is through his or her stomach — that’s why he dropped $4308.87 to stuff 800 faces in Arizona.

TMZ has obtained the receipt from Paradise Bakery in Tempe, Arizona — where Jackman bought 67 breakfast trays and 80 gallons of coffee for a pack of “Wolverine” fans who had camped out in front of a theater the day before Monday’s big premiere.

Once Jackman heard about the fans, he promised to buy them breakfast and placed the order late Sunday. We’re told Jackman wanted to keep the food order simple and bought platters of bagels, muffins, and croissants.

No word if Jackman left a tip — we’re gonna assume he did … ’cause he can do no wrong.

Millward Brown, a subsidiary of the WPP, has come out with its annual list and report, BrandZ, that ranks the most valuable brands in the world. Unsurprisingly, Google tops the list for the third year in a row, with the Google brand valued at $100 billion, rising 16% in value over the past year from $86 billion. Microsoft comes in second, with its brand valued at $76.2 billion, only rising 8% in value over the past year. Last summer, Google had the no. 2 reputation in the world, according to The Reputation Index, and Microsoft didn’t even break into the top 40 (the company was ranked #43 in terms of reputation). In last year’s BrandZ rankings, Microsoft was third on the list behind General Electric, so the company has inched a little closer to Google.

The NHL, which loaned the Coyotes money in February to keep the team in business, is now running the franchise and has promised Glendale that it would reimburse the city for parking fees and security costs owed by the team, Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley said.

“The NHL is in charge of the team right now,” Beasley said. “We have assurances from the NHL the money will be paid. . . . We are sitting down with the NHL and working confidentially with them, and the city expects to be paid in full.”

The New York daily News on Wednesday released more info from Sports Illustrated writer Selena Robert’s book “A-Rod” , about Yankees Star Alex Rodriguez. The book alleges that Rodriguez might have been taking steroids as far back as high school and that he was still using them while a member of the New York Yankees.

Roberts is infamous for breaking the story that Rodriguez failed a steroid test while with the Rangers in 2003. She also writes that Yankee teammates nicknames A-Rod  “Bitch Tits” because of his inflated girl like pecs, a condition referred to as gynecomastia, a common side effect of anabolic steroid use.

Howard has been suspended for Game 6 of the Magic’s playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers for his elbow on Sixers center Samuel Dalembert, the NBA announced Wednesday.

The two got tangled up going for a rebound in the first quarter in Game 5 on Tuesday night. Replays showed Howard threw an elbow that hit Dalembert above the shoulders. Howard drew a technical foul for the hit.
