A U.S. Bankruptcy Court ruling Monday keeps the Phoenix Coyotes in Arizona for now, but whether the team will permanently stay in Glendale remains uncertain.
Judge Redfield T. Baum ruled against a proposal that would have relocated the team to Canada. The decision erases a June 22 auction proposed by team owner Jerry Moyes and potential buyer Jim Balsillie.

Reebok paid $204 million back in 2004 for the right to manufacture National Hockey League gear for players and fans. The relationship between the sports apparel giant and the League has led to its redesign of the NHL jersey and to Reebok being a title sponsor of the League’s Manhattan retail flagship. Hockey stars like Sidney Crosby(notes) of the Pittsburgh Penguins have become among the most prominent faces for Reebok’s gear.

The NHL, which loaned the Coyotes money in February to keep the team in business, is now running the franchise and has promised Glendale that it would reimburse the city for parking fees and security costs owed by the team, Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley said.
“The NHL is in charge of the team right now,” Beasley said. “We have assurances from the NHL the money will be paid. . . . We are sitting down with the NHL and working confidentially with them, and the city expects to be paid in full.”

Total Pro Sports - Whenever I go to hockey game its always entertaining to see what people will do to try and get themselves on the big screen.
There are always the drunk guys, the fat guys and the drunk fat guys. Sometimes there are attractive drunk women that steal the show and at a recent Florida Panthers game, that is exactly what happened. An enthusiastic young lady decided that rubbing herself and exposing her breasts to the crowd was a great way to show her support for the home team. What a true fan.
I bet that prior to this game the woman featured in this video was just an anonymous member of society, now because her fine public performance she has become an Internet star. Not everyone is lucky enough to become a star on the net, but this lady definitely has the “talent” to take her all the way.

NHL Players Not Toothless Idiots!
Last Updated on Saturday, 24 January 2009 12:11 Written by admin Saturday, 24 January 2009 04:00
As seen on NBCsports.com
MONTREAL – The NHL Players’ Association is not thrilled with everything in the current collective bargaining agreement with the league, but sees no reason to stop playing under these terms yet.
The union’s executive board turned down an opportunity Friday to reopen the CBA, which has been in effect for 3½ seasons, to ensure hockey labor peace through the 2010-11 season.
The players’ association had until May to decide, but chose to make the announcement early during NHL All-Star weekend. The NHLPA can extend the deal, which ended the yearlong lockout in 2005, for another season if it chooses. That determination won’t have to be made until May 2011.
With the economy the way it is, and hockey now the 5th sport in America, NHL players proved they are not all toothless idiots. Reopening the CBA would be the beginning of the end for the NHL. If there was another lockout, would anyone really notice?? Well, not anyone below the Canadian border. And Canada, your welcome for the NBA…though you probably dont deserve it!

Ottawa Senators Jarkko Ruutu was accused of biting Buffalo Sabres Andrew Peters during an altercation in last nights game. Jarkko denies biting Peters. It must have been hard to tell on the ice, because it was Peters who was given a two minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. You be the judge:
Jarkko is the Canadian Mike Tyson. It looks like maybe he was just hungry. The best part is that Peters took the penalty. Goes to show how good professional hockey refs are. What’s next, a player getting a five minute major for repeatedly getting punched in the head??

DALLAS — Whenever Sean Avery is ready to return to the NHL, it won’t be with the Dallas Stars.
“We don’t want to ruin Sean or his career. We want him to get better. The team needs to move on and start winning and he needs to take care of himself. … As a hockey player, I think there’s no question he can be an asset. That said, he’s got to fix the demons he has. “
– Stars co-GM Brett Hull
The combative forward was eligible to return from a six-game suspension Sunday, but the Stars instead announced Avery will not rejoin the team — ever.
“You have to do what’s right for both parties, and that’s what we’re really trying to do,” co-general manager Brett Hull said.

DALLAS — The NHL suspended Dallas Stars forward Sean Avery indefinitely Tuesday for making a crude reference to former girlfriends while talking with reporters.
Avery’s inflammatory comments came following a morning skate in Calgary, Alberta, where the Stars were to play the Flames on Tuesday night. He approached a group of reporters, asked if a camera was present, then said he wanted to say one thing: “I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada,” he said. “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about. Enjoy the game tonight.”
Avery’s ex-girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert, is dating Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf and had been romantically linked to Mike Komisarek of the Montreal Canadiens. Avery also dated model and actress Rachel Hunter, the girlfriend of Los Angeles Kings center Jarrett Stoll.
Hours after Avery spoke, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced the punishment, saying Avery made “inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game.”
Avery will meet with Bettman before his punishment is settled. That get-together is likely to happen soon.
“I completely support the league’s decision to suspend Sean Avery,” Stars owner Tom Hicks said in a statement. “Had the league not have suspended him, the Dallas Stars would have. This organization will not tolerate such behavior, especially from a member of our hockey team. We hold our team to a higher standard and will continue to do so.”
